Amy
Director & Co-Founder of Adopteen

Amy

Hi! I'm Amy. Although not ourselves adopted, my brother Art and I, raised in the adoption world and linked with thousands of adoptee friends, started Adopteen back in 2007 when we were 18-year-old teenagers, full of angst, with the hopes of building an inspiring and healthy community for adoptees. I am incredibly proud of what Adopteen has become, the impact it has made and continues to make on the adoption community around the world, and all of the incredible people it has brought together. Best job in the world.

I'm 30% useless TV trivia, 25% angsty emo music nostalgia, 20% food-obsessed, and the rest of my energy is spent trying real hard to act my age. If you're ever looking for a travel buddy, I'm always 100% down. Anytime, anyplace...as long as I'm not working or in school...which is very rare, but please try.

If you are meeting us for the first time, I cannot wait for you to explore all of the fantastic programs Adopteen has to offer! Ask us about the Adopteen Camp- Conference or the Adoptees Giving Back Orphanage Service Trips or AdopTween. Ask us about what other exciting programs we have in the works! Your wish is our command. Get pumped!

Art

I am Art. Nice to meet you!

Adopteen is so much more than anything you want to use to describe it. More than just an event or place or person, Adopteen, to me, above anything else, is an experience. It's the whole, deep dish, extra toppings pizza pie.

I currently split my time between Beijing and San Diego. I have a passion for food, travel, and music and invest much of my free time in those three things. As in, I eat too much, cry about all the places I can't afford to visit, and play tons of private concerts for my favorite pillows.

Adam

Hey you! I’m Adam.

I’ve been with Adopteen since November of 2014, right after graduating from CU Boulder with a degree in Theatre. While I myself am not adopted, I have five adopted siblings and grew up with almost a hundred more foster siblings throughout my childhood, so I’ve been around adoption almost my entire life. I was super stoked to learn that I could be a part of this awesome program and that Adopteen does so much for the adoption community.

I like good books, good theatre, movies, food, and dogs. So mostly I spend all my free time reading, making pizza, and watching funny dog videos with my wife.

Talk to me. I’m fun.

Ali

Hi everyone!

My name is Ali. I grew up in the white suburbs of Omaha, NE, and moved to Washington, D.C. for a job after graduating from Syracuse University in 2018 with a double major in Citizenship & Civic Engagement and Anthropology. I also spent three semesters studying abroad in Central Europe, China and the Balkans.

My first experience with Adopteen was in 2016 when I participated on the Adoptees Giving Back Orphanage Service Trip. The trip had a profound impact on my life, and I have since served on three Leadership Committees and as the Conference Assistant for the Minneapolis Camp-Conference. I am excited to continue my work with Adopteen and help the community grow in the D.C. area. I hope to meet you at one of the D.C. hangouts, which will most likely include meeting new friends, good food, and exploring the most thrilling sites D.C. has to offer – and more!

Alyse

Hi Everyone! My name is Alyse Campbell. I am a 22 year old adoptee who currently teaches and attends graduate school in Chicago. I was born in Chongqing, China and was adopted when I was 18 months old through CCAI. Growing up, I spent most of my time in Washington state and recently graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in English and Communications.

I started on this journey of understanding my identity as an adoptee through my experiences with mental health and reaching out to other adoptees in college. I believe that finding others that share similar experiences can be a supportive and validating part of an adoptee's journey. As an Adopteen Coordinator, I hope to bring my passion for education and amplifying adoptee voices to the community and I am excited to bring more adoptees together in the coming year!

Annelise

Hello! My name is Annelise. I was adopted from Guangdong Province when I was 10 months old and have lived in Seattle, Washington ever since. I recently graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Communications and American Ethnic/Diversity Studies. Being adopted from China has always played an important role in my shaping my identity, but it was not until college that I really began to reach out and meet other Adoptees like myself. These relationships have helped me explore and better understand my feelings toward international adoption.

I hope that as an Adopteen coordinator I can continue to grow and enhance both community and friendship amongst adoptees in the Greater Seattle area!

I graduated in Spring 2018 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and majored in Agricultural and Consumer Economics with a concentration in Public Policy and Law!

I have reached out to the adoptee community after feeling a need to reconnect with a part of me that is so integral to who I am! It has been such an amazing journey to embark on. I have been grateful to meet so many people and share experiences with one another. In turn, I feel like I have learned so much more about myself and it has been an amazingly positive experience! Laura
Chicago Coordinator

Laura

Greetings from Chicago!

My name is Laura Williams, and I was adopted from Nanning, China in 1997. I have graduated from DePaul University with a major in Graphic Design and minor in Hospitality. I currently work in Chicago doing both of my favorite things: design and hospitality! I enjoy traveling, exploring new restaurants, and hanging out with my family and friends.

I am excited to take on this leadership role with Adopteen as I have always been interested in my Chinese heritage and the topic of adoption. As long as I can remember, I have always wanted to help make a difference for people like me. Like many others, I have had many barriers to overcome as a Chinese adoptee. Over the years, I have learned to embrace and appreciate who I am. I would have loved the opportunity to belong to a group like Adopteen when I was a teenager, so I would like to bring this opportunity to other adoptees in the Chicagoland area. If you're ever in Chicago, feel free to say hi at one of our hangouts!
