Adopteen Leadership Committee

Being undeniably awesome, all the time...

The Adopteen Leadership Committee is the driving force behind everything we do at our Camp-Conferences. Adopteen is run entirely by teen and young adult adoptees, for teen and young adult adoptees. The Leadership Committee serves as camp counselors as well as help shape the event schedule.

Camp-Conference Co-Director

Claire

Hey there! My name is Claire! I’m 22 and graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelors of Social Work in the spring. I was adopted in 1998 from Whuzhou, Guangxi, China. I have been with Adopteen since 2009 and have loved watching this community grow over the years! I’m ecstatic to be stepping into this new role and furthering our reach into the adoption community! My talents include online shopping, being a part-time vegan, and stealing other people’s dogs! Come on by! I’d love to meet you!

Ali
Assistant Camp-Conference Co-Director

Ali

Hi everyone! My name is Ali. I grew up in Omaha, NE, and moved to Washington, D.C. for a job after graduating from Syracuse University in 2018, where I spent three semesters abroad and double majored in Citizenship & Civic Engagement and Anthropology. I’ve been involved with Adopteen since 2016, and the friendships I’ve formed through the organization continue to be some of my most cherished. Apart from work, I enjoy exploring, crafting, and my favorite kinds of parties are food parties. I am cannot wait to meet you this summer!

Hey hey! My name is Natalie Schneider and I’m from Denver Colorado! I’m currently attending Regis University and I’m studying Communications! I’ve been with Adopteen since 2013, and can’t get enough! As my Instagram bio says I’m a lover of hot sauce, potatoes and sleeping, but I also enjoy photography and cooking! I’m super excited for this summer and can’t wait to see all your lovely faces—returning and new!

Maggie
Committee Coordinator

Maggie

Hello! My name is Maggie. I’m currently in my last semester at Northeastern University in Boston studying Psychology with a minor in Art. Having grown up in Wilmington, DE, I’m very excited that I will be relocating to Philadelphia this summer to begin graduate studies in Mental Health Counseling at the University of Pennsylvania in the fall. Though college has impeded my attendance in programs the past years, attending camp-conferences was always the highlight of my summers in high school. I’m incredibly grateful for the bonds I’ve formed through Adopteen and can’t wait to keep adding on to them! In my free time you can find me dancing, climbing, or binge-watching K-dramas with a facemask on. I can’t wait to meet everyone! See you in Haverford!

Hello happy people!

My name is Anna Jacobs, and I love Adopteen, horses, Stephen Curry, and bananas—in that order. I live in St. Louis, Missouri, but I attend college way out in the sticks—Miami University of Ohio (not Florida) in Oxford, Ohio (not England). When I am not playing guitar, fishing, playing sports, writing horrible poetry, doing school, drawing, or being weird, I am either sleeping or eating (because I’m a normal person).

I first participated in Adopteen when I went to China with the 2017 Adoptees Giving Back trip. My life predictably changed when I ate some local chicken feet. I guess I should also mention that I became irretrievably addicted to the Adopteen community and never looked back. I love Adopteen, and I enthusiastically embrace the work that it promotes and accomplishes. I can’t wait to be involved in this summer’s conference and meet ya’ll! #AFL

Hello everyone!

My name is Ellie Webber and I'm 21 years old! I'm currently a Junior in college, attending Boise State University, in which I'm pursing a major in Psychology along with a minor in Communications. BSU is the main University in the State where I'm from, which is Idaho! I've had the fortune of living in the land of potatoes since I was one years old, when I was adopted from the Jiangxi province in China. I've been with Adopteen for about four years now. I attended my first camp conference all the way back in 2016. Since then it feels like I haven't been able to get enough of it! Last year I had the honor of being on the committee team for the Colorado Spring's camp. This year I'm just as excited to be given the opportunity again, and look forward to meeting everyone. I'm excited for basically everything, but if I were to narrow the down the list I'd say I'm most enthusiastic for making new friends, experiencing new adventures with new people, and adding more friends to my Animal Crossing Island! But seriously lets trade friend codes, I bet you all have some great islands! I hope until then everyone stays safe and healthy, I can't wait to meet all of you!

Hello everyone! My name is Jamie, and I was adopted from Xining, China in Qinghai Province in 2001. I am a sophomore at the University of Texas at Dallas double majoring in Supply Chain Management and Global Business. I am on the UTD table tennis team, and this year we qualified for Nationals! In my spare time, I enjoy watching movies, eating lots of food, playing music, bullet journaling, volunteering, and hanging out with friends!

I have been a part of Adopteen since I was 14, and I have kept coming back ever since! It is an amazing way to have fun and make friends that will last a lifetime! I went on an AGBOST trip in 2018 to Changchun, China in Jilin Province, and it was a life changing experience that I 10/10 recommend!

I look forward to being a Counselor at the Denver 2020 conference this year, and I cannot wait to meet everyone and make memories and friends!

Hi guys! My name is Joy and I'm 19. I'm from Columbia, MO and I am currently majoring in Graphic Design and minoring in Criminal Justice at Columbia College. I was adopted when I was 6 months old from Hong Kong, which is a coastal city in Southern China. Fun fact about my adoption story is that my adoptive mom is also Chinese, so throughout my childhood I was able to visit my hometown over the summers. I love Kpop and some of my favorite groups are Ateez, Monsta X, and BTS, however if you looked at my Spotify playlist, you would see all sorts of genres both in English and non-English, haha! If I'm not studying or sleeping, you'll find me outside on the trails hiking or biking or kicking around a soccer ball because I really enjoy the outdoors. I have a tendency to want to learn and do everything so my hobbies are all over the place, but a few are cooking (I can make a mad meal out of 24 cent ramen), mediocre dancing aka me attempting to do kpop dance covers in my room lol, working out, and photography.

I have attended two Adopteen summer conferences, Minneapolis in 2018 and Colorado Springs in 2019, but this will be first year on the committee. I decided to be a leader because even though being a camper was awesome, as I grow older, I want to share my experiences and adoption story and hopefully inspire others. I'm a big people person so being on the other side just allows me to truly meet and get to know everyone! I am extremely excited to be a part of such an amazing team and look forward to hearing all your unique stories!

P.S. Sometimes my resting face can be a little intimidating, but I promise you I'm just big a softie so don't be afraid to say hi to me! I'm very "he attac but protec" :)

Hi hi! My name is Liz and I’m 23 years old. I was adopted from Hebei province in 1997 and have lived in Canada ever since. I currently live in Vancouver BC going to a local college to get my nursing prerequisites! When I’m not busy studying or sleeping, you’ll find me outdoors at the beach with my camera or eating lots of food. This will be my 3rd time on the leadership team and 6th conference overall and I’m super excited to hang out with you all this summer!

Hi Everyone! I’m Olivia Schwab, born in the province of Hunan China and raised in Colorado. Currently, I’m a freshman in college studying for my ultrasound tech. program. I enjoy listening to music and creating all sorts of arts and crafts. Dancing has also been one of my favorite hobbies and is something I love to do anytime and anywhere! I recently got a puppy named Judah and I love him very much and often enjoy the outdoors with him. I’ve always wanted to get more involved in Adopteen because of the community and support it has given me. In 2015 I went to my first Adopteen summer camp in Colorado. Then in 2017 I went on the Hunan AGBOST trip. Recently, in 2019 I had the honor of being a part of the camp committee at the Colorado Camp Conference. I’ve met amazing people from these experiences and I still keep in contact with many of them to this day! I’m looking forward to creating more memories and friendships with Adopteen!

Hello hello! My name is Bethany! I live in Georgia, but was raised in Idaho, which will always have a special place in my heart! My parents adopted me from the Guangxi Province in 2002. I’m currently wrapping up sophomore year at Kennesaw State University studying cybersecurity. Outside of school, I love reading, traveling, trying new foods, and being in the great outdoors...and scrolling through Instagram. My dream destination would be London, Paris, or Florence! This is my sixth year with Adopteen; my first camp experience being San Diego in 2015. It was such an incredible, life-changing experience; I had to come back for more! I have met the sweetest people, made life-long friendships, and seen beautiful places! I am so excited to meet all of you lovely people and make many amazing memories together!

Hi everyone! My name is Grace Sill, and I was adopted from Zhejiang, China at 11 months old and raised in Pensacola, Florida. I am a 20-year old student at Florida Southern College studying Religion with an English minor. When I’m not reflecting on the world, you can usually find me at swim practice, or practicing my cello and pipa - although lately, I’ve been obsessed with the app versions of Animal Crossing and Sky.

My first experience with Adopteen was with the Winter 2015 Adoptees Giving Back Orphanage Service Trip. I have also attended the D.C. 2016 camp conference and was on committee for Colorado Springs 2019. I love getting to connect with other adoptees while exploring new places. Much of my identity, and my confidence in it, is a product of my experiences with Adopteen, and I’m super excited to meet everyone at this year’s Haverford conference!

Hi Adopteen community! My name is Julia Butler. I was adopted in 2002 from Yangjiang City, Guangdong Province. I hail from Jacksonville, Florida and I’m a rising sophomore at the College of William & Mary. (Go Tribe!) I started to get involved with Adopteen in 2018 when I participated in AGBOST and last year I attended my first camp-conference in Denver, Colorado. Adopteen has given me so many valuable experiences, wonderful friends, and a community I can always depend on, so I wanted to give back and serve on the Leadership Committee!

I’m a full-time computer science nerd, part-time golfer and violinist, and a big-time BTS Army. I’m almost fluent in Chinese so if you’re interested in learning or just want to talk, I’m all for it! More importantly, I’m really excited to get to know everyone at camp this year.

Hello! My name is Jordan Pyle. I am a musician and music educator. I play the oboe in the Reno Philharmonic and the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra and teach oboe lessons for the public schools surrounding the Dallas area. I have been involved in Adopteen since the summer of 2019 where I serve as co-coordinator for the Plano Adopteen Chapter. Being a chapter coordinator made me want to work at the Adopteen camp-conference. I love planning activities, learning new things, and connecting with others in our diverse community and I'm thrilled I get to serve through this new role. I am most excited to participate in all the fun, new activities we have planned for the camp and to get to know all the campers. Hope to meet you in Haverford!
