Adopteen Organizing Committee

Being undeniably awesome, all the time...

The Adopteen Organizing Committee is the driving force behind everything we do at our Camp-Conferences. Adopteen is run by teen and young adult adoptees, for teen and young adult adoptees. The Organizing Committee serves as Camp Counselors as well as helps shape the conference schedule and overall flow of events.

Liz

Liz

Hey everyone! My name is Liz and I’m 22 years old and currently living in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. I was adopted from China at 9 months old and have lived in Canada my entire life. My favourite things do to are trying new places to eat, photography and taking long walks on the beach. A fun fact about me is that I LOVE pigs and hope to have my own teacup pig as a pet when I’m older. See you soon! This will be my 5th Adopteen event and first time on the committee and I’m super excited to meet everyone!

Nora

Nora

Hey, I'm Nora! Right now, I'm a graduate student in Boston working on that Masters degree and learning how to juggle school and life. I grew up in Colorado, and I still try to visit home as often as I can. Taking a cue from my own experiences as an adoptee from China, I have found that adoption, family, and identity are ingredients that create an even bigger story full of more surprising twists and heartfelt emotions than I could have imagined. When I'm not working on research, I like to enjoy the city of Boston with its many different types of food and neighborhoods full of personality. In such a creative environment, I'm often inspired to write, paint, and perform my music. I'm super excited to be with you all this year, and I can't wait to learn more about you.

Sophie

Sophie

Hey there! I'm Sophie. I'm a transracial adoptee; I was born in China and adopted and moved to San Francisco at the age of five months. I moved out of the city for undergrad and spent four years living in Saint Paul, Minnesota while attending Macalester College and surprised myself by how much I love the Midwest. I'm now back in San Francisco, working at my old high school and wrapping up my last year of graduate school through San Francisco State University.

When I'm not working or studying, I'm probably biking around the city, making punny watercolor cards, cooking or eating, or coaching basketball. I'm really excited to connect with other adoptees, to learn and grow, and of course to enjoy and explore life with a wonderful community!

Vaughn

Vaughn

Hey fellow adoptees! My name is Vaughn and I was raised in Johns Creek, Georgia. You can usually catch me outside running or inside binge watching New Girl on Netflix. I have three siblings, who were also adopted from China, and two four legged friends, Rowan and Cooper. This will be my third Adopteen conference and I can’t wait to make new memories and creating close bonds!!

Claire

Hey there! My name is Claire! I’m 22 and graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelors of Social Work in the spring. I was adopted in 1998 from Whuzhou, Guangxi, China. I have been with Adopteen since 2009 and have loved watching this community grow over the years! I’m ecstatic to be stepping into this new role and furthering our reach into the adoption community! My talents include online shopping, being a part-time vegan, and stealing other people’s dogs! Come on by! I’d love to meet you!

Gracie
Conference Asssistant

Gracie

Hey everyone!

My name is Gracie. I grew up in Tucker GA, right outside of Atlanta with my mom and orange cat. I'm 22 years old, currently in my senior year at Middlebury College in Vermont. While I'm majoring in International Global Studies, with a focus on East Asia, and minoring in education studies, I also like to consider myself a psychology enthusiast! When I'm not studying I'm either making latte art, dancing, or eating massive amounts of Ben and Jerry's Icecream with my friends.

I'm really excited to travel to Colorado for the first time this summer and meet a new community of adoptees! I feel that adoption is such an important part of my identity and how it intersects with other areas of my life. I can't wait to meet some awesome new people, have some good conversations, and enjoy a wonderful week of new experiences!

Anna

Anna

Hello Happy People!

My name is Anna Jacobs, and I love Adopteen, horses, Stephen Curry, and bananas—in that order. I live in St. Louis, Missouri which is a pretty sweet place to achieve my sole goal in life: graduating high school. When I am not pursuing this high-flung aspiration, I engage in equally inspirational hobbies such as fishing, watching fish videos on YouTube, feeding my crayfish, playing guitar, and drawing.

I first participated in Adopteen when I went to China with the 2017 Adoptees Giving Back trip. My life predictably changed when I ate some local chicken feet. I guess I should also mention that I became irretrievably addicted to the Adopteen community and never looked back. I love Adopteen, and I enthusiastically embrace the work that it promotes and accomplishes. I can’t wait to be involved in this summer’s conference and meet ya’ll! #AFL

Ellie

Ellie

Hey Adopteen Community!

My name is Ellie Webber and I'm 20 years old. I'm from Boise Idaho and was adopted from the province Jiang-xi when I was one. I'm currently a sophmore at Boise State University and plan to major in International Business with a minor in both Japanese and Korean. I first joined Adopteen in 2015 and have gone to at least one conference every year since. This community means a lot to me, as it's helped me become more confident and knowledgeable about my experience as an adoptee. I hope you're all able to take something worthwhile away from this conference and I look forward to meeting everyone!

Grace

Grace

Hello there!

My name is Grace Sill, and I was adopted from Zhejiang, China at 11 months old and raised in the bipolar weathers of Florida. I am currently a 19-year old student at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida, studying Religion with an English minor. If you’re seeking a nice discussion about deep philosophical topics that will make your head spin, I’ve got you covered! When I’m not reflecting on the world, I’m usually at swim practice, practicing my cello (named Fettacelli Alfredo) or with friends coming up with amazingly terrible puns.

My first experience with Adopteen was with the Adoptees Giving Back Orphanage Service Trip the winter of 2015, and I have attended a camp conference since then as well. At each of the Adopteen events I’ve attended, I’ve loved getting to connect with other adoptees while exploring new places. Much of who I am, and my confidence in it, is a product of my experiences with Adopteen. I’m super excited to make everyone’s camp experience just as amazing and can’t wait to meet you all!

Krista

Krista

Hi! My name is Krista Marrocco and I am from Clearwater, Florida. I am 17 years old and I was adopted in 2002 from Guangdong. I am a senior in high school and will attend the University of Florida in the fall to study electrical engineering. I have been a competitive gymnast for 10 years and my favorite event is the balance beam. I attended the Camp-Conference last summer in Denver and had an amazing time! I feel so fortunate to be a part of this welcoming community. I can’t wait to go back to Colorado and I look forward to meeting all of you!

Lily

Lily

Hi everyone!

My name is Lily! I was adopted from Guangdong in 2000 when I was one year old and raised in Houston, Texas. I now attend the University of Texas, where I study bio-medical engineering. I hope to work in biotechnology after I graduate, so that I can utilize the precision of technology to help diagnose and treat various diseases. I first became involved in Adopteen through the Camp-Conference program in 2014, and it has unquestionably shaped who I have become today. I’m super stoked to help out the best conference yet!

Liz

Liz

Hey everyone! My name is Liz and I’m 22 years old. I was adopted from Hebei at 9 months old and have lived in Canada ever since. I am currently living in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia working at lululemon full time. On my days off you’ll find me at the beach, finding cute dogs to pet or binge-watching reruns of Grey’s Anatomy

Adopteen has held a special place in my heart since my first Camp-Conference in 2016. From my very first conference in Vancouver, I knew this was a community I needed to be a part of to help me learn to embrace my heritage and where I came from. The sense of community, personal growth I’ve experienced and friendships I’ve made have kept me coming back every year. This will be my 6th Adopteen event and second time on the organizing committee and I’m super excited to meet you all!

Olivia

Olivia

Hi Everyone!

I’m Olivia Schwab, born in the province of Hunan China and raised in Colorado. Currently, I’m a senior in high school taking college classes for an ultrasound tech. program. I enjoy listening to music and creating all sorts of arts and crafts. Dancing has also been one of my favorite hobbies and is something I love to do anytime and anywhere!

I’ve always wanted to get more involved in Adopteen because of the community and support it has given me. In 2015 I went to my first Adopteen summer camp and in 2017 I went on the AGBOST trip and fortunately we went to my province, Hunan. I met amazing people from these experiences and I still keep in contact with many of them to this day! I’m looking forward to creating more memories and friendships with Adopteen!

Zoe

Zoe

Hey guys!

My name is Zoe Seymore and I am a senior in high school in Fort Worth, TX. I have yet to decide on a college, but I am aiming for a small, liberal arts school and I am interested in studying math, science, and languages. I was adopted from Guangxi Province, China at 11 months old and have found my Chinese heritage and culture to be important parts of my identity. I have even used this to conduct my current research project about adoptees and adoption books.

I have been with Adopteen since the 2014 Texas Midpoint and I am so excited to be a part of the Adopteen Committee for the first time this summer! Adopteen has truly been a part of my amazing journey in discovering who I am as well as granting me the many friends I still have today! I cannot wait to work and meet with other adoptees and share the wonderful experience Adopteen has imparted on me with others.

Ali
Conference Assistant

Ali

Hi everyone! My name is Ali. I grew up in Omaha, NE, and moved to Washington, D.C. for a job after graduating from Syracuse University in 2018, where I spent three semesters abroad and double majored in Citizenship & Civic Engagement and Anthropology. I’ve been with Adopteen for the past three years and I currently help coordinate hangouts for the Adopteen D.C. Chapter. The friendships I’ve formed through the organization continue to be some of my most cherished. Apart from work, I enjoy exploring, crafting, and my favorite kinds of parties are food parties. I am eager to take on the out-of-state Conference Assistant role again and cannot wait to meet you all this summer!

Bethany

Bethany

Hello Hello!

My name is Bethany! I was adopted from the Guangxi Province in 2002. I was raised in Idaho but currently live in Georgia. Although, Idaho will always have a special place in my heart! I’m dual enrolled at KSU studying cybercrime. Maybe I can achieve the childhood dream of becoming the “Napster!” I love to do so many things, but my favorites include reading, traveling, trying new foods, and being in the great outdoors. My dream destination would be London or Paris!

This is my fifth Adopteen conference; my first camp experience being San Diego in 2015. It was such an incredible, life-changing experience, I kept coming back for more! I have met life-long friends and enjoy connecting with other adoptees. I look so forward to meeting all of you lovely people and making many amazing memories together!

Chloe

Chloe

Hi everyone, my name is Chloe and I can't wait to see you all at the out of state conference! This will be my ninth conference and my fourth time on committee and I couldn't be more excited! Adopteen is a great place to meet new people and become a part of a community. I am eighteen and will be heading into my freshman year of college at the University of Colorado - Boulder this upcoming fall. Skooo Buffs! In my spare time I love to take pictures, go shopping, and hang out with friends. I can't wait for this summer!

Gerald

Gerald

Hi everyone!

My name is Gerry. I grew up in Pensacola, FL and am now living in Ann Arbor, MI where I attend the University of Michigan pursuing a double major in Political Science and Economics. I love to play soccer and basketball, obsess over pictures of dogs on Instagram, and especially love eating lots of food (Adopteen has labeled me the human garbage disposal).

This year’s conference will be my third on Organizing Committee and fourth camp-conference overall! I have also had the opportunity to go on AGBOST to Hangzhou, China. Adopteen has provided me with an amazing and loving community that has allowed me to become more confident in my both my identity as an adoptee and myself. I have made so many amazing friends through Adopteen and I can’t wait to make even more at this year’s Texas Camp-Conference! I hope to see you there!

Natalie

Natalie

Hi everyone!

My name is Natalie. I grew up in Denver and I’m still here! I’m a student at Regis University and I’m studying Health and Exercise Science. I love to travel and have gotten to go to Eastern Europe as well as China.

My first Adopteen experience was in 2013 at my first camp conference. I have also gotten to participate in local Adopteen activities as well as travel with twenty-four other adoptees on the Adoptees Giving Back Orphanage Service Trip. Last year was my first year on committee and I had a blast! Can’t wait to see you all this summer!

Vanessa

Vanessa

My name is Vanessa Shu. I live in Chevy Chase, Maryland, just outside of our Nation's Capital, Washington, DC. I graduated from Towson University with a major in Elementary and Special Education, and now I am a first-year 5th-grade teacher. I enjoy meeting people and spending time with family and friends. I'm a foodie, open to trying all foods.

My first Adopteen conference was Denver 2015; I loved it so much that I came back the next year as a committee member for Adopteen Washington, DC 2016. I currently host Washington, DC hangouts every month, and while I love them so much, I can’t wait to meet new people this summer!
