Adopteen Organizing Committee

Being undeniably awesome, all the time...

Midpoint Retreat Organizing Committee

Liz

Liz

Hey everyone! My name is Liz and I’m 22 years old and currently living in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. I was adopted from China at 9 months old and have lived in Canada my entire life. My favourite things do to are trying new places to eat, photography and taking long walks on the beach. A fun fact about me is that I LOVE pigs and hope to have my own teacup pig as a pet when I’m older. See you soon! This will be my 5th Adopteen event and first time on the committee and I’m super excited to meet everyone!

Nora

Nora

Hey, I'm Nora! Right now, I'm a graduate student in Boston working on that Masters degree and learning how to juggle school and life. I grew up in Colorado, and I still try to visit home as often as I can. Taking a cue from my own experiences as an adoptee from China, I have found that adoption, family, and identity are ingredients that create an even bigger story full of more surprising twists and heartfelt emotions than I could have imagined. When I'm not working on research, I like to enjoy the city of Boston with its many different types of food and neighborhoods full of personality. In such a creative environment, I'm often inspired to write, paint, and perform my music. I'm super excited to be with you all this year, and I can't wait to learn more about you.

Sophie

Sophie

Hey there! I'm Sophie. I'm a transracial adoptee; I was born in China and adopted and moved to San Francisco at the age of five months. I moved out of the city for undergrad and spent four years living in Saint Paul, Minnesota while attending Macalester College and surprised myself by how much I love the Midwest. I'm now back in San Francisco, working at my old high school and wrapping up my last year of graduate school through San Francisco State University.

When I'm not working or studying, I'm probably biking around the city, making punny watercolor cards, cooking or eating, or coaching basketball. I'm really excited to connect with other adoptees, to learn and grow, and of course to enjoy and explore life with a wonderful community!

Vaughn

Vaughn

Hey fellow adoptees! My name is Vaughn and I was raised in Johns Creek, Georgia. You can usually catch me outside running or inside binge watching New Girl on Netflix. I have three siblings, who were also adopted from China, and two four legged friends, Rowan and Cooper. This will be my third Adopteen conference and I can’t wait to make new memories and creating close bonds!!

We are so excited to present to you our Midpoint Retreat Organizaing Committee! Adopteen is also now accepting Organizing Committee and Conference Assistant applications for our Summer Camp-Conferences. We will hire one Conference Assistant per Summer Camp-Conference, and an Organizing Committee for Midpoint and both Summer Camp-Conferences.

The Adopteen Organizing Committee is the driving force behind everything we do at our Camp-Conferences. Adopteen is run by teen and young adult adoptees, for teen and young adult adoptees. The Organizing Committee serves as Camp Counselors as well as helps shape the conference schedule and overall flow of events.

The Camp-Conference Assistant, while part of the Organizing Committee, is a more involved, paid position. Camp-Conference Assistants will work very closely with our Conference Coordinator to arrange all the details of their Camp beforehand, and serve as the head of the Committee before, during, and after the event. For more details on both positions, please see Job Descriptions below.

All adoptees over the age of 15 are welcome to apply to be on the Organizing Committee - you do not need to have attended Adopteen before (though previous leadership and conference experience are preferred).

What Is It?

An opportunity to play an even bigger role in the Adopteen community! We aren't here just for laughs. We want to build strong, positive leaders and show the world what incredible things we are capable of.

The Organizing Committee and Conference Assistant primarily help develop, organize, and lead the Adopteen Camp-Conference and Midpoint Retreat. It's a busy job and meaningful commitment. You will work closely with a team of other adoptees toward making the next Camp-Conferences and Midpoint Retreats the best one yet!

Organizing Committee and Conference Assistants attend the Adopteen event that they work for free, with plane tickets and certifications if necessary covered by Adopteen. Please note that all Adopteen staff are required to be at the event that they work three days before the scheduled start date for event prep and activities.

Think you've got what it takes? Of course you do. See below for Job Descriptions as well as instructions on how to apply to each position.
